What a high search count really means
When a number appears near the top of this list, it usually means a lot of people received a call or text from it in a short space of time and wanted to find out who it was. That happens for entirely innocent reasons — a delivery firm, a survey company, a recruiter or an automated appointment reminder — as well as less welcome ones, such as marketing campaigns and scams.
In other words, a high search count is a signal of call volume, not proof of wrongdoing. The useful next step is always the same: look the number up to see its UK location and the network it sits on, then judge the call on what the caller actually wanted. A legitimate organisation will be happy for you to hang up and call back on a verified number; a scammer will pressure you to stay on the line.

- Don't answer details on the call — never share passwords, PINs or one-time passcodes with an inbound caller.
- Block it — tap the number in your recent calls and choose "Block this caller", or switch on your provider's free call screening.
- Cut marketing calls — register free with the Telephone Preference Service.
- Report it — nuisance calls to Ofcom, scams to Action Fraud, and forward scam texts free to 7726.
